·          different types of jobs to choose from

·          opportunities to train in industry and to use industry skills and experience.

The Tourism & Hospitality Industry:

·          is a portable career that offers experiences not only in Australia but overseas

·          provides an opportunity to learn about and experience other cultures

·          is expanding and so offers long term job security and career advancement.

"Tourism at the turn of the century is growing faster than even our most optimistic predictions," said World Travel Organisation Secretary-General Francesco Frangialli.

Providing catering, food and beverage service and accommodation for all these visitors explains the growth in this industry sector.

Over the next 20 years there it is projected that 50% of all food expenditure will be on meals consumed outside the home.

Current available figures indicate that there are 20,000 restaurants and cafes, 16,000 fast food and takeaway outlets, 4887 caterers, 6637 hotels and 3284 clubs.  Australians spend just under $1000 per head eating out each year.
